Q:
How do I decide whether to go for a fibreglass or aluminium wheelchair ramp?

A:
There is a common misconception that fibreglass ramps are much lighter than aluminium ramps but this is generally not the case, there’s very little in it really. In situations where both types of ramp are suitable for your situation, then it’s down to personal choice, i.e. which you like the look of most or which suits your budget. Aluminium ramps tend to be available in longer lengths and tend to be a bit more resilient to being ‘bashed about’ but fibreglass ramps tend to be a bit more aesthetically pleasing and are more suitable for customisation.

Q:
Which ramps are most suitable for loading scooters or wheelchairs into vehicles?

A:
The main issue when selecting a ramp for loading scooters or wheelchairs into vehicles is the ‘folded size’ of the ramp because normally you need to transport to ramp in the vehicle to be able to unload the scooter or wheelchair at the other end of the journey. In view of this, the best categories of ramps to look at are the ‘Multi-fold’ category and the ‘Two-piece channel ramps’ because of their compact ‘folded size’. The one issue that you need to be aware of when considering a ‘Two-piece track ramp’ for loading a scooter, is that many scooters have a low ground clearance and the underside of the scooter can catch on the inner guard edge of the channel ramps, so I’d suggest opting for a ‘Multi-fold’ ramp in this instance.

Q:
I have a uPVC door threshold that I struggle to get over, what would you recommend?

A:
I would normally suggest giving us a quick call on 0800 6121140 to discuss but in many circumstances the best product are the Doorline Bridge Ramp, or the Jetmarine Folding Threshold Ramp, which can be found in our ‘Threshold Ramp’ category.

Q:
Do you come out and measure up if I’m not sure what ramp I need?

A:
We generally find that it’s not necessary. We really only need the height of the obstacle/steps that you’re looking to negotiate and we can then advise you as to what ramp best suits your needs. If it’s a more complex issue, then we can always discuss coming out and doing a site survey to ensure that you get the right ramp. This service is dependent on location and the potential complexity of the ramping solution. Please call us on 0800 6121140 to discuss further.

Q:
Do you offer ramp installation?

A:
Most of our ramps don’t require any installation and are simple to deploy. For more complicated ramping solutions we can come out and install but there is a charge for this service. Please call for more information.

Q:
What if I can’t find a ramp that’s suitable for my requirements?

A:
I would always recommend giving us a quick call to see if we can find a suitable product but if there isn’t a standard ramp that meets your requirements, then we have a ‘Custom Ramp Design’ service, where we will work closely with our suppliers/manufacturers to design a bespoke ramp solution.

Q:
What if I find that the ramp or any other product I purchased is unsuitable?

A:
If you have purchased a standard product from our website and find that you have ordered the wrong ramp then I would firstly suggest that you give us a call and we will see if we can suggest a more appropriate product. If you have decided that you do not want an alternative product and simply want to return it, then under the Distance Selling Act you are entitled to return the product up to 7 days after receipt of you product. This does not apply to bespoke products. For more information please refer to our ‘Shipping & Returns’.

Q:
How do I know whether I qualify for VAT Exemption?

A:
You need to be able to demonstrate that you have some form of illness or disability that’s relevant to the piece of equipment that you’re purchasing. For example, if you had severe arthritis in your hip and were unable to walk, then you’d qualify for VAT Exemption because you’d understandably require a wheelchair and therefore potentially a wheelchair ramp to enable you to move around. Check the HM Revenue & Customs Website for more information. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/sectors/consumers/disabled.htm
